Touché: What Does Your Clothing Say About You
My Touché category consists of clever, thought-provoking points written by other bloggers, along with my two cents.
A brilliant article written by Gala of galadarling.com makes you take a look at yourself in the way you dress. Who do you dress for?
My two cents:
I sometimes like watching “makeover” shows because they often give good tips about how to dress, but sometimes it is heart breaking to see the person being made over. The worst case example I have seen is on the Tyra Banks show, where she gave a girl with huge bleached hair a makeover. The girl ended up hating it–Ms. Banks then gave her a gift certificate to a hair salon to get it done back to its bleached-blond mess because “it’s not worth it if you’re not happy.” The irony in this slays me.
The second worst case example is the show How Not to Dress, in which the hosts are basically taking jabs at the victim’s self esteem until the victim succumbs to their ideas. It is no wonder people fail to dress for themselves, because they are pre-occupied with dressing how society tells them to. We definitely live in a society that would rather tell us how to dress (and make sweet sweet money off of endorsements and promotions) instead of telling us how to be happy with our sweatshirt-wearing, bleached blond hair-touting selves.
