Claim to Fame: In the race to determine their zodiac ranking, the Horse confidently strode in after the Dragon, only to find the Snake had used him for a ride! Taken aback, the Horse settled into 7th place.

Personality
Horses are seen as very independent and strong-willed. They are also quite intelligent and are good at reading people. Horses are multi-taskers and can take on several projects at once, although they sometimes fail to see the projects through to the end before taking on a a newer, exciting project. While they are easy to confide in, Horses are not so good about keeping secrets because of their excitable nature. Because the relationship between the Rat and the Horse is the worst possible combination in the Chinese zodiac, some people fault the German destruction of the Jews as the cause of the incompatibility between Germany, which is governed by the Rat, and Israel, which is governed by the Horse.

Elements
The Horse is associated with the element Fire, which gives it adventurous and restless qualities. Since 2014 is going to be the year of the Wood Horse, Fire Horses are going to have a good year since Wood feeds Fire. Metal and Earth Horses are going to have it rough since the Metal’s tendency to destroy Fire is reversed and Wood destroys Earth. Water Horses will have a good year since Water feeds Wood.

Tomorrow: The first out of a trio of animals that helped each other get across the bank: The sheep!

*Because the Chinese calendar runs on lunar cycles, each year starts and ends on a different date. Therefore, if you were born in January or early February, your zodiac animal might be different that you had originally thought. Fortunately there are tables and websites that will help you find out exactly which one you are!

**Since the zodiac animals also are associated with certain months and seasons, one can have an “inner” zodiac animal. For example, I was born in the year of the Ox (1985), but I was born in the Pig’s month (November). So the Pig is my inner zodiac animal. You can further break this down by the exact hour you were born, which gives you your “secret” animal.
